2019-08-31 Conversation With George

It was raining in Yankton this morning. We had eggs and bacon, Dad had sausage and eggs. Talked a bit about the Star Brite Inn Motel which I think used to be called the Flemming Motel. Dad mentioned his friend Leo LaLond (sp?) would go to the train depot, and pick up the passengers and bring them to the motel. An update is that the Star Brite Inn is no longer in business and now is Pathways Shelter for the Homeless. We did talk about the passing of Mike Rockne. Mike was just 62, and we grew up in the neighbor hood with them. Dad worked with Mike's father Dave at the Post Office.

I guess things never stay the same for very long.

2019 Kids Combined Birthday Party

A Combined Birthday Party for 2019

2019-08-24 Conversation With George

Some early discussion of the current weather. Mentioned that the old Kips in "blinking" star is now at Willerts Tastee Treat. Mentioned seeing a photograph that had the Coates Hotel in it. I figured the hotel address was at 303 1/2 Cedar in Yankton.

This brought on Dad's memory of when he was a kid, he and Uncle Orman witnessed the American State Bank getting robbed. That would have been around the same location as this photograph.

We didn't talk about this, but I found it interesting an old photo of Wards, and the Red Owl grocery store. I knew Wards used to be where Hatch Furniture is now, but I didn't realize that Red Owl was on 3rd street at one time.

Some movie talk today. We saw Once Upon A Time In Hollywood last week, and found that movie pretty good. Going to see The Kitchen this afternoon.  Talked a little about mistaken identities.

There was some rain in Yankton this morning, pleasant in Princeton. Recalled the time we drank powdered milk when we were growing up (not really tasty). Stuelpnagel eggs was brought up.
